Identification Labels SZ ( ES-30 )

Identification Labels Alfa Romeo SZ & RZ.

Identificationlabels SZ & RZ

1. Label ( vehicle type - Chassis Serial Number ).

VIN number, stamped in the boot bottom nearby the pump.

Vin

Vin-code

At the SZ you can verify the accuracy of the chassis number checked by the 3 digit code stamped on the hinges of the petrol door.

Normally that code is the same as the last 3 digits of the chassis number. Pre-production cars normally did not have those extra code(s) at all.

Vin-code

In 2021 we discovered that: The last 3 digits of the VIN are also stamped on a hinge of the boot.

Vin-code

Than we found out that at the SZ's the 3 last digits from the VIN are also a part of the code at the little plaque under the bonnet nearby the radiator.

See picture below:>>>

Vin-code

For the RZ's they made a bit of a mess of it.

VIN number also stamped in the boot as also in the SZ.

Vin-code

You can also find the VIN at the aluminium indentification plaque under the bonnet.

Vin-code

But than something strange happened....... the 3 digits at the hings from the petrol door seems to be different from the last 3 digits from the VIN as it is as at the SZ.

It seems to be a new number !

Vin-code

But we discovered that at the RZ's those 3 last digits are also a part of the code at the little plaque under the bonnet nearby the radiator.

Vin-code

And this number can be found at the RZ also at the bracket from the boot cover release.

Vin-code

And at the bracked from the interior light at the inside of the bonnet / engine bay cover.
At the SZ you can find at that spot the last 3 digits from the VIN.

Vin-code

You can also find these numbers in other places in the SZ or RZ.

Vin-code

!!! If someone can tell more about these numbers than that information is more than welcome !!!

2. Engine Serial Number.

In my opinion impossible to see when the engine is in the car !

enginenumber

With a very small camera it is possible to make in the "blind" several pictures, in the hope that one of the pictures will show the engine number.

3. Identification Label.

Aluminum identificationlabel nearby radiator, under the bonnet. Some cars did not get a ricambinumber on that plate.

There can be differences. Probably per country where the SZ / RZ has been sold were different requirements.

If you import an SZ / RZ to Belgium is is neccesary to get a new aluminium label provided by government in Bruxelles

5. And the most important, the production number of the car.

At the silver plate on the konsole, but also handwritten in the certificate and printed in the partsbook ( xxx/1000 ) wich came with every SZ. The RZ came without a partsbook.

6. The spare wheel sticker.

On most spare wheels is a warning sticker that says that you should not use the wheel at speeds above 80 km / h.

Toward the left side is the text in the English language on the right often in the language of the country where the SZ was first delivered.

Though this was not always the case, as some wheels have only a small round 80 km / h sticker.

If your SZ / RZ does have another sticker in a different language or form, then I would like to receive a picture of course !

If you have any articles, books etc about the Alfa Romeo SZ ( ES-30 ), I am intrested in purchasing them.
