Work in progress: These models are all made from steel, hand formed and painted.
Beadblasted and ready for painting
Ever since I could use a crayon I’ve been drawing cars and from the age of 9 I was in my fathers shed making them.
Ok, so they were only wooden but I’ve always been fascinated by them. Not just their shapes but also their engineering.
At 16 I started my 4 year Toolmaking apprenticeship although this wasn’t the plan. I wanted to go straight into a local firms Drawing Office
BUT was told by the Design Manager"I’m not having anyone here who cant make what they draw Wise words, so the toolroom it was!
Apprenticeship served I became a Mechanical Design Engineer working in various industries from car parts to industrial printers, exhibition stands to
architectural lighting. Then, after 15 years of the nuts and bolts I picked up my pencil and markers and switched to Indrustrial Design.
Here I worked on the design of everything from Baby Buggies to Trains - I loved the mix of asthetics, ergonomics and engineering. BUT my feet were itchy,
I wanted to work for myself. Design something I wanted, something I could make..
So in August 2009 I jumped, starting Dave Clark Designs. From a single chair I made for myself and a mate saying Make me one? I’ve been producing chairs, tables and sculptures for petrolheads like me ever since and loving every minute of it!!
