Silver Plaque

The Silver Plaque.

plaque

All SZ and RZs have a silver plate on the console with the car's production number engraved on it. These numbers do not correspond with the chassis numbers / VINs.

As you can find on the Register pages, the production numbers versus the chassis number are a mess.

If you look at the silver plates of the SZs throughout the production, you will see small differences.

Lower than production number 250 (or even lower?) you see that there is a round ZERO used. Later this will become an oval ZERO. At the RZs the ZERO's are always oval.

The original plaques always have 2 small silver marks at the bottom right.

It looks like 2 different fonts have been used for the letters S ( R ) and Z. The two letters differ considerably in shape from each other.

On the SZ Prova 008, the console had a different shape and the production number was therefore also stuck in a different place.

The silver plaques were glued to the leather of the console during production, but so badly that over the years some plaques have fallen off the console and disappeared. This has led to owners having their own plaque made. But a problem arises if one does not know which production number the car in question had, because, for example, there was no longer a certificate or parts book with the car.

As an example: there are 3 SZs with the production number 025, of which only one has the original and that is the SZ with the VIN ending on: 03000047.

Some turned out well, but normally you can see the difference with the imitation plaques if you place an original one next to it.

As mentioned, the original plates are made of real silver and as proof of this you will find 2 silver marks in the bottom right corner.

The imitations are usually made of a different material, such as stainless steel, plastic or even gold. But for example, they all lack the silver hallmarks and there are differences in the letters and numbers compared to the original.

Below I will add some examples of imitations.
